Iajuddin visits native home before saying goodbye to Bangabhaban

On the penultimate day in his extended presidency, Dr Iajuddin Ahmed Tuesday visited his native home at Noyagaon under Sadar Upazila of the district exchanging pleasantries with his compatriots for the last time as the President.

Accompanied by his spouse Dr Anwara Begum, he offered Fateha at his family graveyard during the visit, two days before saying goodbye to Bangabhaban, the presidential house, after over seven years.

Awami League leader Zillur Rahman, now considered elected unopposed, is going to succeed him Thursday.

The outgoing President also talked to his relatives, waiting to receive him inside the house beside the graveyard.

Later, Dr Iajuddin visited his own founded ‘President Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed Residential Model School and College’ in front of his ancestral residence on the bank of river Dhaleshwari.

He went round different classes of the school enquiring about learning process of the students. Principal of the college M Morshed Alam was present.

While exchanging views with the teachers of the institution, the President said he cordially wanted that every citizen of the country would be educated and would contribute to nation-building process.

“This is my last visit to Munshiganj as the President. The next time I come here, I will come here as an ordinary citizen,” he said.

Dr Anwara Begum also spoke on the occasion.

Civil and military high officials of Bangabhaban and other high officials of the district were present during the trip.

Earlier, the President reached Munshiganj Circuit House at 1:15pm. There he was accorded guard of honour by a contingent of district police.
