A fierce fire gutted 15 shops at Mirkadim Kathpatti in Sadar upazila early Monday.

Mohammad Hossain Renu, Mayor of Mirkadim Pourashava said the fire originated from a mosquito coil at a furniture shop at about 1:45am and soon engulfed the adjoining other shops.

On information, three fire fighting units from Sadar upazila and Narayanganj rushed in and extinguished the blaze with the help of local people.

The affected shop owners claimed that the losses caused by fire could go up to Tk 2 crore.
