Jubo Dal men land in jail for beating police

Two Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal leaders of Munshiganj district unit were sent to jail on Thursday on charges of beating two policemen.

They are joint secretary Monir Hossain, 32, and Jahangir, 26, an activist of the district unit of opposition BNP’s youth wing.

Lauhajang police chief told bdnews24.com that the incident started when Monir was seen to rebuke harshly a water dealer of Ghordour Bazar in Lauhajang Upazila on Wednesday night.

When police constable Aktarzzaman, who happened to be buying something at an adjacent shop, intervened and asked Monir why he had scolded the dealer, he was beaten by the BNP leader. When another police officer came to his colleague’s rescue, he was also beaten by Monir and Jahangir.

On hearing the shouts of the two police constables, officer in charge Kutub and Amdad came to their help and arrested Monir and Jahangir.

A case was filed with the Louhojang police .

On Thursday, the court sent the two men to jail, the police official added.
