BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain protested the arrest of party activists and torture on them by police during ‘peaceful’ hartal in Munshiganj district on Sunday.
Munshiganj district BNP called the dawn to dusk hartal in the district in protest against the killing of Akbar Hossain, organizing secretary of Mirkadim pourashava unit of party.
Akbar was killed at Sadarghar in capital allegedly by ruling Awami League activists on his way to join BNP’s May 19 grand rally at Paltan Maidan in capital.
In a statement, Delwar said police has illegally arrested and tortured 16 leaders of BNP and its front organizations during hartal hours in Munshiganj.
The BNP secretary general called upon the government to show democratic behaviour by releasing all the arrested leaders and withdrawing all false cases filed against them immediately.
