Acute traffic jam at Kawrakandi-Mawa ferry ghat; 800 trucks stranded

About 800 goods laden trucks remained stranded on both sides of Kawrakandi-Mawa ferry ghat in Padma River in last five days due to scarcity of ferry.

BIWTC official Abul Kalam Azad told UNB that four out of total 12 ferries running on the river route remained out of order, that caused the problem.

It will take at least two weeks to repair the four ferries and re-excavate the Charhajera-Mawa channel, said the official.

A ferry generally takes three hours to cross the ghat–connecting Shibchar upazila here in one end and Srinagar upazila in Munshiganj in another end–via Jazira.
