HC stays cases against BNP leaders

The High Court has stayed 12 cases against BNP leaders Rafiqul Islam Miah and Shah Moazzem Hossain for six months. All procedures of these cases filed for threatening the life of prime minister Sheikh Hasina have been stayed.

The High Court also asked the government to explain within four weeks why the cases will not be cancelled.

A vacation bench of the High Court, comprised with justices Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Mohammad Abdus Samad, issued the verdict on Sunday following a petition by the BNP leaders to cancel the cases.

The BNP leaders were charged in 12 cases in Dhaka, Khulna, Bhola, Bogra, Pabna, Chittagong, Narail, Kushtia, Munshiganj, Manikganj and Jessore alleging that they had made a death threat to the prime minister.

Khandker Mahbub Hossain stood for the BNP leaders.
