People from all walks of life in Munshiganj today welcomed the decision of the government to establish Bangabandhu International Airport at Airal Beel in their locality.
Addressing a roundtable discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity here they said the people of Munshiganj district (Bikrampur) would remain ever grateful to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for constructing a mega project like Bangabandhu Airport along with a satellite city having an IT village in their area.
Dhaka based Munshigonj-Bikrampur Samity organized the discussion with its President Prof Dr Muniruzzaman Bhuiyan in the chair.
Awami Health and Family Welfare Affair Secretary Dr Badiuzzaman Bhuiyan Dablu, lawmakers Ashrafunnesa Mosharraf and Sanjida Khanam, former lawmaker Jamal Hossain, former general secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Omar Faruque, noted freedom fighter Mahbub Uddin Ahmed (S P Mahbub), Awami League leader Fakir Abdul Hamid, Juba League leader Zakir Hossain and Chhatra League leader Kabir Ahmed, among others, spoke at the discussion.
The speakers said a new horizon of economic development would open up for the people of Munshiganj as well as the whole nation when the airport project is implemented.
The existing Hazrat Shah Jalal International airport is not sufficient for the huge activities to be needed in building a digital Bangladesh, they said adding the new one would also earn a vast amount of foreign currencies.
A petty group of people are opposing the noble initiative of the government for their personal interests and they would be resisted any how, the speakers added.
