15 hurt in attack centering road construction in Munshiganj

At least 15 people were injured and 30 houses were ransacked as a group of people attacked the villagers of Charbeshonal centering a road construction on Saturday in Sadar Upazila of Munshiganj.

Injured Tara Mia, 22, Kanchon Mia, 30, Shahparan, 21, were admitted to Munshiganj General Hospital while the rest were released after primary treatment, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.

Villagers of Dhalikandi attacked people of Charbeshonal at about 5:00am with sticks and other locally made sharp weapons leaving the 15 people injured.

The attackers also looted a number of houses while the villagers were asleep.

Earlier on Friday, people of Dhalikandi forced the villagers of Charbeshonal to stop the construction works of a road from Charbeshonal to Pura Baily Bridge under Kabita project (Kajer binimoye taka i.e. money for work) of Molakandi.

Additional District Commissioner S M Mahfuzul Haque also failed to settle the dispute.

Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said additional police forces were deployed at Charbeshonal and Dhalikandi-Noanda to bring the situation under control.

No case was filed till filing of this report at 6:30pm.
