4 die as buses collide in Munshiganj

At least four people were killed and 40 others injured on Friday when two buses collided head-on in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj.

Police said a Dhaka-bound bus of S Alam Paribahan and a Comilla-bound bus of Basona Pribahan crashed into each other at around 11:00am in Baushia-Pakhi point area, leaving the four dead on the spot.

The deceased are Shahidul Islam, 30, of Pirojpur, Abdul Karim, 65, of Feni, Shubhroja Chakma, 42, of Khagrachhari and Nilufa Aktar Fatema, 50, of Chandpur, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.

Of the injured, Jahid, 50, Nurul, 52, Mannan, 30, Anowara Begum, 45, Younus Haldar, 45, Abu Taher, 50, Rosne Ara Begum, 50, Ruhul Amin, 48, Sharmin, 35, Jakir, 18, and Badal, 18, were rushed to Dhaka and different local hospitals and clinics.

Police seized the two buses but both the drivers managed to flee the scene, said Arju Mia, officer-in-charge of Gazaria Police Station.

A case was lodged with Gazaria police station in this connection.
