Bus services in Dhaka-Munshiganj routes suspended for tattered road

Bus service in Dhaka-Munshiganj and Dhaka-Narayanganj-Munshiganj routes were suspended for an indefinite period on Wednesday for tattered roads.

General Secretary of Munshiganj Bus Owners Association Md Sanaullah Bepari said they took the decision because of shabby condition of roads in these routes.

He said buses have been staying off roads in Dhaka-Narayanganj-Munshiganj route since Wednesday morning while those are not plying on road in Munshiganj-Sirajdikhan-Dhaka routes since afternoon.

He said big path-holes and cracks which developed in the highways couple of years ago have made roads unfit for plying of buses.

Moreover, heavy downpour in the last few days made roads inundated by rain waters and rugged further creating obstacles for drivers to ply their vehicles in the route, he informed.

As a result drivers stopped plying buses in these routes from today, he added.

Munshiganj thana OC Shahidul Islam said path holes and cracks littered in 8 kilometers road from Panchabati of Narayanganj to Mukterpur of Munshiganj.

He informed that steps have been taken by the concerned authorities to repair the road.

Jaglul Haldar, local Awami league leader and chairman of privately-owned transport service `Dighirpar Paribahan`, said his buses stopped plying in this route from today as drivers declined to drive vehicles on these dilapidated roads.

“It will not be possible to drive the buses on thses roads before Eid-ul-Fitr and even after Eid as repair of damaged roads is unlikely to be completed before the festival,” he added.
