15 hurt in Munshiganj clash

At least 15 villagers were injured in a clash between the supporters of a union parishad chairman and a defeated chairman candidate in Munshiganj Sadar upazila Sunday night.

Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Ripon Patowari, chairman of Molakandi union, and Shah Alam Malik, a defeated chairman candidate, picked up a quarrel over a trifling matter at Noadda Dhali village.

At one state, one of the supporters of Malik pushed a woman of the opposite group.

The OC said the clash ensued around 9:00pm when people of Ripon attacked the supporters of Malik, also the vice-president of district Awami League, and damaged a number of houses in a sequel to the previous incident.

Around 30 to 40 bombs were exploded during the clash, he added.

At least 15 people of both the groups were injured, reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting police.

Giasuddin Sardar, 52, who was critically injured in the bomb blasts, was admitted to Munshiganj General Hospital while the rest were taken to different local hospitals.

Additional police have been deployed on the spot.

The situation became normal at the village after 1:00am Monday, the OC said.
