Killing of old man in road accident sparks protest

Killing of an old man in a road mishap at Khanbari in Louhajang upazila on Dhaka-Maowa highway sparked off violence leaving five vehicles damaged and disrupting traffic movement for one hour on Friday

Police said Aziz Bangi, 70, resident of Medini Mondol village in the upazila died on the spot when a bus ran over him while crossing the road in the morning.

Angered by the incident, local people damaged five running vehicles and blocked the highway disrupting traffic movement for an hour.

On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control. Police seized the bus.

Another report from Natore adds: A new-born baby of Bildohor village in Singra upazila was killed and his parents were injured when an auto-rickshaw carrying them turned turtle near Gobindapur bridge in Sadar upazila on Friday.

The accident occurred in the morning when the parents were taking the pneumonia affected baby, Sirajul Islam, to Sadar hospital.

Another message from Magura adds: Sumaiya Khatun, 9, a class III student of Shatakhali Madrasah and daughter of Majnu Mia of Deyadanga village in Sadar upazila was killed when a truck hit a tempo carrying her on Magura-Bunagati road at Payeri in the upazila on Friday afternoon.

A case was filed.
