2 more bodies recovered in Munshiganj ferry disaster

The death toll from the launch capsize in the Meghna under Gojaria of Munshiganj rose to 147 with recovery of two more dead bodies on Saturday. One of the two ferry disaster victims was identified as Sheikh Kamal, 32, of Attpara village under Sreenagar in Munshiganj district, who was returning to Dhaka with a newly-married couple and 17 other relatives.

They all fell victim to the launch capsize. Most of their dead bodies were found except that of Kamal.

The other victim was Abu Taher, 35, Naria in Shariatpur district.

Gojaria police recovered the dead bodies in the morning.

Family members and relatives received the dead bodies from the police later.

Acting officer-in-charge of Gojaria police station Md Kamal Hossain told this correspondent that people of Shatnal area in Chandpur district had informed them that two dead

bodies had been floating on the Meghna river.

After three hours of efforts they could mange to take the dead bodies to the bank of the Meghna.

Second officer of Munshiganj Sadar police station, Sultan Ahmad, told daily sun that though the Matlab police had reached Shatnal, the Gojaria police team had recovered the dead bodies.

The Dhaka-bound launch, MV Shariatpur-1, capsized in the Meghna earlier on Thursday with around 250 passengers aboard.
