Munshiganj BNP declares Sinha persona non grata

Angry BNP men pelted Mizanur Rahman Sinha, treasurer of the central committee of the main opposition, with shoes hours after he was declared persona non grata in Sirajdikhan upazila on Friday.

Locals said the BNP people intercepted Sinha at Nimtala on Dhaka-Mawa highway at about 3 pm while he was going to Louhajang upazila to attend an Iftar party of the upazila BNP.

At one stage, they started hurling shoes at Sinha, also former state minister for health, for expelling two party leaders in an apparent bid to clear his path to vie in the next general election from Munshiganj-1 constituency with BNP ticket.

Later, he returned to the capital.

Earlier, Sirajdikhan upazila BNP from a rally at Nimtala declared Sinha persona non grata as the two BNP leaders were expelled from the party at ‘his behest’.

The expelled leaders are BNP district organising secretary and its upazila unit president Abdul Quddus Dhiran and party’s district vice-president and upazila general secretary Sheikh M Abdullah.

Leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations from 14 unions under the upazila took part in the rally held from 10 am to 12 pm.
