A mugger who was injured in a lynch-mob attack in Gazaria upazila on September 17 died at a hospital in the capital on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Sakil, 26, son of Shahabuddin of Shekhergaon village in Meghna upazila of Comilla district.
Sub-inspector Hanif Sarker of Gazaria Police Station said locals caught three snatchers — Sakil, Mamun and Sajib– while they were trying to rob one Solaiman Mia of his belongings at Bhitikandi on Dhaka-Chittagong highway on the night of September 17.
Later, the angry mob handed them over to police after a good beating.
Police took the injured muggers to a local hospital. However, Sakil was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Sakil succumbed to his injuries at about 11 am on Wednesday.
