The deceased are Jhonu Sarker, 25, a female Baul singer (traditional folk singer), and her band members Md Sharif, 26, and Edon Mia, 30, reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting Jainul Abedin, in-charge of Bhober Char Police out post.
Abedin said the accident took place at about 5:00am at the eastern side of Meghna bridge on Dhaka-Chittagong highway killing two people on the spot and injuring five others.
The troupe was returning to Narshingdi after finishing a programme at Karim Kha village of the upazila, he added.
On information police rushed in and rescued the victims.
The injured were whisked off to a local hospital, where one succumbed to his injuries, Abedin said.
Police seized the Comilla-bound covered van but the driver of the vehicle managed to flee immediately after the accident.
Meanwhile, an unidentified woman, 30, was killed when an unidentified vehicle ran her over at Satgaon in Shreenagar upazila of the district in the morning.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Shreenagar Police Station, said the body was sent to Munshiganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
