Radio Bikrampur, a community radio station, has been installed in Munshiganj Sadar with financial assistance from the Japanese government.
The Embassy of Japan donated a grant of US$ 63,204.78 under Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) to Environment Council Bangladesh (ECBD) to improve the accessibility of information for the local community.
Masayuki Taga, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in Dhaka, inaugurated the radio station on Saturday, said a Japan Embassy press release on Sunday.
The inaugural function was held at the Circuit House auditorium of Munshiganj with Deputy Commissioner M Saiful Hasan Badol in the chair.
Speaking on the occasion, Taga said, “Through sharing accurate information, community radio can serve as an effective empowerment tool for people, contributing to the betterment of their lives and to socio-economic development.”
He also said community radio can be used effectively in disaster management at the times of cyclones and floods, minimizing the damages of lives and assets.
