Prof Emeritus of Dhaka University (DU) Serajul Islam Choudhury on Monday observed that the economic disparity is intensifying in the country despite a long struggle and many changes.
In his deliberation of the ‘Nazmul Karim Study Centre Lecture 2014’ at RC Majumder auditorium on the campus, Prof Serajul Islam said, “The gap between the rich and the poor has not minimised. Instead, it has widened crudely, which is visible.”
The deprived people have been living in an unlimited agony as they see the gap widening despite a long struggle and changes in many other aspects of society, he added.
DU vice chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, who presided over the lecture, said education is the only remedy to the social problems mentioned by Prof Serajul Islam, and by late Prof Nazmul Karim.
The light of education must be spread everywhere so that the general people could be emancipated and they could live with honour and dignity in society.
Nazmul Karim Study Centre director Prof Nehal Karim also spoke on the occasion.
