A teenaged boy was hacked to death and ten other people were injured by armed robbers who raided five homes in two villages at Sirajdikhan Upazila of Munshiganj on Sunday night. The dead, Rinku Shil, was only 16 and lived at Sekharnagar Dakkhinhati village.
The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with serious wounds inflicted by bullets and sharp weapons. Superintendent of Police Md Zakir Hossain Majumder said they held five suspects following the attacks on Tegharia and Sekharnagar Dakkhinhati villages last night. ’20 to 25 masked robbers in half-pants attacked five homes including those of Anwar Hossain, Dilip Shil, Bhakta Mallik, Sirajul Islam around 2am,’ said SP Hossain.
They first entered Anwar Hossain’s home in Tegharia and wounded four including his son ‘Sajib’, 32. But when the robbers moved on to Sekharnagar Dakkhinhati the villagers chased them with local weapons and police joined soon afterwards. The robbers fired from shotguns as they fled. But they attacked Rinku on the way and indiscriminately chopped him with sharp weapons, before fleeing through Arial Beel.
