After a decade, all is set to hold the council of Munshiganj district Awami League at Shilpakala Academy here today.
Leaders and activists of the ruling AL have been energized at the news of holding the council. A huge preparation has been going on to make it a grand success. Important roads and highways have been decorated with welcome arches, banners and festoons.
Tofail Ahmed, industries minister and also an advisory council member of AL, is expected to present at the function as the chief guest while the party’s General Secretary and LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam inaugurate the council.
The last council was held at Kachharir Balur Math in Munshiganj town in 2004. It attracted huge attention of the nation at that time as the then BNP-Jamaat government had tried to foil the council by putting up barricade at different places.
But, every efforts of BNP-Jamaat went in vain as Tofail Ahmed reached Munshiganj town with thousands of people and held the council successfully.
Mohiuddin Ahmed, incumbent president of Munshiganj district AL and a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is likely to become president of the unit once again. No other name is heard for the post.
Now General Secretary Alhajj Lutfor Rahman and Joint General Secretary Tofazzal Hossain are fighting for the post of general secretary.
Conflict between Mohiuddin Ahmed and Munshiganj District Muktijoddha Commander and Munshiganj Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Anis-Uz-Zaman has already been solved before holding the council, which will help strengthen AL in the district, party insiders said.
Anis-Uz-Zaman is likely to get a vital post in the council, party sources said.
