Death of a couple in a road accident at Bezgaon in Munshiganj on Tuesday

Locals blocked the Dhaka-Mawa Highway for hours yesterday, following the death of a couple in a road accident at Bezgaon in Munshiganj on Tuesday.

SI Arfan said Sreenagar upazila unit Shweccha Shebak League Secretary Aminul Islam Tulu, 45, and his wife Riva Akter, 35, were killed when a speeding bus ran over them while they were heading to Riva’s village home on a motorcycle.

They were buried at Sreepur graveyard in the morning where local AL leader Sukumer Ranjan Ghosh, Abu Kaosar Molla, Pankaj Bebnath, Tofazzal Hossain and BNP leader Alhaz Momin Ali were present, among others.

When the burial was completed, they urged the people to block the road, protesting the deaths.

The agitated people put a blockaded on the highway for hours and vandalised vehicles. A 10km long tailback had been created on the highway during the blockade.
