Three dump ferries have also been closed due to strong currents in Padma at Mawa
The plying of all kinds of speed boats on Mawa of Munshiganj and Kawrakandi of Shariatpur routes have been suspended on Saturday.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority has taken the decision at 11am due to strong currents in the river.
“The BIWTA has suspended plying of all kinds of sea boats on Padma due to gigantic waves and strong currents in the river,” Mawa River Traffic Inspector Jahangir Hossain said.
Three dump ferries have also been closed due to strong currents in Padma at Mawa. However, four ferries and nine Ro-Ro ferries are now on the run, said Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) AGM Ashikuzzaman Chowdhury.
