Pinak-6 owner’s son arrested

PINAK+SON+PICRAB has arrested sunken passenger ferry Pinak-6’s owner’s son Omar Faruk Limon who is said to have been in-charge of the vessel’s overall supervision.

The 27-year-old was arrested from Dhaka’s Khilkhet on Friday morning, RAB’s legal and media wing director Mufti Mahmud said.

Since the accident, 48 bodies have been recovered from the downstream, while 61 are still unaccounted for, according to official figures.

A futile search for the vessel was called off after eight days.

The BIWTA filed a case over the mishap with Lauhajung police accusing six people including Limon and the vessel’s owner Abu Bakar Siddik Kalu.

RAB arrested Kalu from Chittagong on Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, a lawyer served a legal notice on the secretary to the shipping ministry seeking the removal of eight government employees, including six of the BIWTA, over the mishap.
