Pinak-6 owner and son placed on 4-day remand

pinak6A district court here on Monday placed capsized Pinak-6 owner Abu Bakar Siddique and his son Omar Faruq on a four-day remand in Pinak-6 launch capsize case.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Harun-or-Rashid passed this remand order after the hearing.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested Omar Faruq in connection with Pinak-6 launch capsize incident from a house in the city’s Khilkhet area early Friday. He was the supervisor of the sunken launch.

RAB arrested Abu Bakar Siddique (Kalu), owner of the recently sunken motor launch ML Pinak-6, from Chittagong on August 13.

On August 4, ML Pinak-6 motor-launch sank in the river Padma while coming to Mawa from Kawrakandi.

Forty-nine bodies were recovered.

At least 58 passengers are still missing, according to government list.
