Collapsed bridge at Tongibari yet to be repaired

Repairing work of the collapsed bridge at Tongibari bazar on the Munshiganj-Dhaka-Tongibari-Baligaon road could not be started over the last two days.

Playing of vehicles between Tongibari and Dhaka via Munshiganj and Muktarpur has remained suspended following the collapse of the bridge on Thursday night. As a result, local people are facing great difficulties. They have been crossing the road on foot.

Meanwhile, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader visited the collapsed bridge on early Friday afternoon and ordered the authorities concerned to repair the bridge as early as possible.

It is learnt that a Dhaka-bound potato-laden truck from Tongibari got hanging after a plate of the bridge was collapsed on Thursday night. At that time, pedestrian Abul Kalam, 40, who was crossing the bridge on foot died on the spot. Kalam was an employee of Jahangir’s rod-cement shop at Tongibari Bazar. He hailed from Bhola district.
