Erosion of the River Padma has again begun at Louhajang in Munshiganj district. The river erosion has been continuing over the last one and a half decades in Louhajang.
The villages situated at the bank of river Padma have become the victims of the river erosion. As a result, an extensive area has already been devoured by the river Padma.
The erosion in river Padma has again started in full swing in Louhajang following the onrush of water from the upstream and strong current in the river.
At least, 40 shops and over 100 homesteads were devoured by the river Padma in villages Kumarbhogh and Khoria under Louhajang upazila during the last two days. Much of the Kumarbhogh union has already been devoured by the river.
In such a situation, the inhabitants of the erosion-affected areas have been shifting their homesteads and business establishments to other places.
