Girl’s harassment: Dhaka-Mawa highway blocked

The one-hour blockade caused a two-km long traffic jam on both sides of the highway, says Sreenagar police OC. The students of a high school have blocked the Dhaka-Mawa Highway in Munshiganj, protesting the alleged harassment of a school girl by a bus staff.

Abdur Rahim, head master of Shamashpur High School, said: “A staff of a local bus of Gangchil Paribahan made offensive comments on Ira, a class ten student of my school on Monday morning, while she was traveling by the bus.”

“She was on her way to the school. She informed her classmates about the incident immediately after reaching the school. Later, angry students blocked the highway around 2pm.”

Officer-in-Charge of Sreenagar police station Mahbubur Rahman said: “Being informed, the police rushed to the spot and assured the protesting students to take necessary steps against the accused staff.”

“After getting the assurance from the police, they removed the barricade around 3pm. However, the one-hour blockade caused a two-km long traffic jam on both sides of the highway.”
