The services of five ferries have been put to a halt on Mawa-Kawrakandi route because of the strong current in Padma River.

The services of the ferries were halted since Monday morning.

Shekhar Chandra Roy, assistant manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said: “The services of five ferries out of 16 were suspended due to the strong current in the river.”

“Around 350 good-laden trucks got stuck in the terminals of Mawa and Kawrakandi due to the disruption of the services,” he said.

He said: “Even the remaining 11 ferries are facing problems.”

BIWTC officials said the problem would not be resolved until the level of the water decreases in the river.
