1 killed in Sirajdikhan boat race clash

A man has been killed in a clash between two villagers during a boat race in Ichamati River in Sirajdikhan of Munshiganj.

The victim is Shankar Mallik, 38, son of late Madan Mallik of Ghoshnagar of Chitrakote.

Sub-Inspector of Sirajdikhan police station Muzammel Hossen confirmed the death from the spot at 7pm to the Dhaka Tribune.

Quoting Shankar’s relatives, the SI said carpenter Shankar went to see boat race with others by a trawler on Thursday.

At one stage of the event, a clash erupted between Goalkhali villagers and the boat race committee members of Moricha village, leaving five people injured and falling Shankar into the river, he said.

In the evening, Shankar’s body was recovered from Chandipara ghat of Chitrakote.

The body will be sent to the Munshiganj General Hospital for post mortem, Muzammel said adding none was arrested in this connection.
