Fire at Bashundhara paper mill : 6 hurt

munshiganj-fire-2At least six workers were injured in a fire that raged through a factory of Bashundhara Paper Mill in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj this morning.

Five units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence brought the fire under control after over an hour of frantic efforts.

The fire broke out in the warehouse of the mill around 9:45am, said Ferdaus Hossain, officer-in-charge of Gazaria Police Station. “The cause of the fire is still uncertain.”

“The factory authorities tried and failed to extinguish the fire with its own equipment. As the fire went out of control, five units from Demra, Narayanganj Bandar and Daudkandi fire stations rushed to the spot,” the OC said.

It will take more than over an hour to extinguish the smoulders, Mamtaz Uddin, deputy assistant director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, told our reporter in the afternoon.

OC Ferdaus Hossain said the injured were rushed to separate hospitals for treatment. However, the extent of their injury could not be confirmed.

Additional police were deployed on the boundary of the factory, located on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
