RAB has arrested seven men from Dhaka, Aricha and Munshiganj in connection with the Tk 20 million BRAC Bank robbery in Joypurhat.

RAB Media Wing Deputy Director Rumman Mahmud said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday night from Dhaka, Aricha, Munshiganj and other places. Tk 5.6 million was recovered from them.

Robbers on Sept 26 night knocked down the wall of the bank’s branch on the first floor of a building at Sadar Street in Joypurhat town.
Bank officials estimate Tk 19.95 million had been robbed.

7 detained over BRAC Bank burglary, Tk 56 lakh recovered

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-11) in separate raids arrested seven persons in connection with looting of Taka 1.96 crore from a branch of BRAC Bank in Joypurhat on September 26 and recovered Taka 56 lakh from their possession.

Two masterminds of the burglary, Raja Mia, 45 of Munshiganj and Monjurul Hasan Shamim, 32, of Barisal were arrested from Sreenagar of Munshiganj and Fatullah of Narayanganj on Wednesday night, a RAB official said.

While their accomplices–Badal Mallik Alias Babla, 49, of Barisal, Anup Chandra Pandit, 22, his elder brother Plabon Chandra Pandit, (25) of Mymensingh, Swapon Debnath (40), of Mymensingh, AKM Kuddusur Rahman Bulu, 52, of Barisal — were arrested from Fatullah of Narayanganj and Sabujbagh of Dhaka, on Wednesday night and on Thursday.

They also recovered Taka 56 lakh from their possession.

Drives are on to nab the remaining criminals, a RAB official said.

Earlier on September 26, cutting the wall, the criminals broke the vault and took away TK 1.96 crore from a branch of BRAC Bank in Joypurhat. Later, they distributed the looted money among them.
