A youth was lynched at Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur on Thursday. He was identified as Mostofa, 32, son of Mofazzal Hossain of Bhogda village under Louhajang police station in Munshiganj district.

Local sources said Mostofa was allegedly trying to steal from a shop of one Jamaluddin at Kalampur area under Kaliakoir upazila by breaking a the shutter of the door on Wednesday night.

Locals rushed and beat him mercilessly. Later, police rescued him and sent him to Kaliakoir Upazila Hospital early Thursday morning where he succumbed at around 10am.
