Man held on rape charge

Police on Tuesday morning held a man, who is in his forties, on charges of raping a college girl. Police said Ratan Lal Sumon was captured from an employees’ quarter by Ramna Park in Dhaka in the morning for allegedly raping a college girl from Srinagar of Munshiganj.

The arrest was made following the detention of a woman, Nazma, who is in her forties, from a Green Road house in Dhaka for allegedly assisting the criminal activity.

Sher-e-Bangla police officer-in-charge GG Bishwas said a case had been filed with the police station and Sumon and Nazma were shown arrested in the case.

Police also sought seven days to quiz the arrested, GG Bishwas added.

He said Sumon works as a temporary cleaner in foreign ministry.

Parents of the victim said, the girl came to Gulistan in Dhaka form Munshiganj at about 9:00am on Friday.

Sumon received her at the bus stop and took her to Sangshad Bhaban area by a rickshaw. They passed few hours there and later Sumon took her to a house where he allegedly raped her.

She suffered injuries to her private parts.

Sumon hurriedly took her to Gulistan by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw as her condition was deteriorating.

The girl took a bus to Munshiganj, but got off at Balashur as she felt severe illness.

She phoned her mother and told everything what she did with the acquaintance.

The mother went to Balashur and took the girl to their house.

They first called a doctor who advised the victim to be hospitalised.

The girl was first admitted into Munshiganj public hospital and later shifted to Mitford hospital in Dhaka and finally took her to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on Friday night.
