Capsized trawler not yet salvaged in Padma

The trawler, sank on Friday morning in Padma River in Munshiganj district, could not be salvaged till Sunday. BIWTC officials said the trawler sank when it crashed into a ferry at Lauhajang channel on a foggy Friday morning. Mawa Police Sub-Inspector Younus Ali said labourers, who were on the stone-laden trawler, made it to shore safely.

BIWTC Shimulia Ghat (terminal) manager Sirajul Haque said ‘Tugboat Belgium hauled the ferry Thobal. The trawler rode the wave and crashed into the ferry in the shallow-watered channel in Lauhajang around 8:30am. That’s when it sank.’ The trawler, which was headed for Faridpur’s Jajira from Munshiganj’s Mawa, was carrying stones for Padma Bridge’s link road construction, according to a news agency.
