Bhutan would supply stones for constructing the much-talked about Padma Bridge, said Pema Choden, Bhutanese ambassador in Dhaka.
She said: “We will supply stones for Padma Bridge in the same manner we did it for constructing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Bridge.”
The Bhutanese envoy made the statement while exchanging views with journalists in Madaripur on Tuesday.
She said: “We have a very friendly relationship with Bangladesh and we are ready to supply stones for the construction works of major establishments in the country.”
Recalling the traditional friendship and long- standing relations and engagements between Bangladesh and Bhutan, she further said: “We first have recognised Bangladesh as an independent country.”
“In order to celebrate the historic moment, our Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay arrived here on December 6 and inked two deals.”
During the visit of Tshering Tobgay, the countries inked a deal on trade that would allow the two countries duty free access to 90 of each others products.
The two Saarc neighbours signed another deal on land allocation that would see the handing over of a plot in Dhaka Baridhara for the embassy of Bhutan
Pema Choden is visiting the district on a special invitation of the staff members of Bhutanese embassy in Bangladesh.
