Airport to be built in Munshiganj : PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday rejected a plea from the Munshiganj area to reconsider the plan to construct the Bangabandhu International Airport there, saying that it will be on the other side of the Padma River.

Hasina said this while holding a videoconference with Munshiganj and other districts of the country inaugurating four power generation and two transmission projects from Ganabhaban.

During the videoconference, local MP of Munshiganj Mrinal Kanti Das repeatedly requested her to reconsider the construction of the Bangabandhu International Airport in Munshiganj. “No, it will be constructed on the other side of the Padma River,” she said.

After the ninth general election, the Awami League government had taken a plan to construct the Bangabandhu International Airport at Arial Beel of Munshiganj. But later the government backtracked from their decision as the locals opposed it.
