Atish Dipankar University to be set up in Munshiganj

An international university is going to be set up at the birth place of Atish Dipankar Srigana in the district. Deputy Commissioner Md Saiful Hasan Badal has received a letter in this connection.

The DC said the university will be named after Atish Dipankar. Initiatives have already been taken to buy 10 acres of land in this regard.

Four residential halls will be built for the accommodation of the students. These halls will be named as Atish Dipankar Hall, Sir Jagadish Hall, Hazrat Shahjalal Hall and Sheikh Hasina Hall, the DC added.

Bangladesh Buddhist Cultural Organisation and Mahaddhagaya Buddhist Mohabihar have taken steps to build the university.

Meanwhile, people of the district are very excited to hear the news of building a university here.

DC also informed this correspondent that a letter was sent to the Education Ministry for building a university at Bajrayogini of the district under Public Private Partnership Project.

It is to be mentioned that Buddhist communities of China, Myanmar, Thailand, Japan and Singapore showed their interest in this regard while visiting the district in different times.

Later, Bangladesh Buddhist Cultural Organisation and Mahaddhagaya Buddhist Mohabihar Shuvananda Mohathero applied to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for building a university after the name of Atish Dipankar. Finally, the Prime Minister gave the permission.

Mahaddhagaya Buddhist Mohabihar Shuvananda Mohathero said, “A monetary fund of Tk 10 crore has been allocated to buy land for the university. We hope to start the construction this year”.
