A skeleton that was found dumped inside a sack in Sholoani village under Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj around six months ago, has been confirmed to be the body of a teenage girl murdered by her father.
After long investigation, yesterday around 8pm police arrested Abul Hossain, 45, from Narayanganj for murdering his daughter Sumaiya Akter, 15.
During primary investigation, Abul said Sumaiya had developed a love affair with Rajib Dewan, 18, son of their neighbour Khabir Dewan, going against his will.
Abul noticed his daughter Sumaiya going out of the house to meet her boyfriend during night. Outraged, he hit Sumaiya with a bamboo stick on the head leaving her dead on the spot. He put the body in a sack and threw it away in a nearby ditch.
Police could not confirm the date when the incident happened.
According to the case statement, on February 11, villagers noticed the skeleton and informed police. Police recovered the skeleton and after investigation found that it was Sumaiya’s dead body.
Gazaria police station Officer-in-Charge ABMS Doha told the Dhaka Tribune: “We suspected that Abul was involved with the murder. After arrest he confessed of murdering his daughter.”
