UP member sued for ‘molesting girl’

The family of a girl, who was allegedly molested by a union parishad member in Munshiganj on August 30, filed a case against him on Thursday.

Following the case, police yesterday detained a local woman Sheuli Begum. However, the main accused Jahangir Talukdar, Joinsar UP member, was not held till last night.

The third-grader on her way home was taken to Jahangir’s house by Shueli, mother of one of her classmates, the girl’s mother told The Daily Star.

Later, Jahangir sexually harassed her and threatened her with dire consequences if she discloses it to anyone, said the mother.

Md Yeardous Hasan, officer-in-charge of the Serajdi Khan Police Station, said they were trying to arrest Jahangir, who was on the run.
