Absconding convict killed in ‘shootout’ at Munshiganj after arrest

A convicted criminal was killed in a so-called encounter with police in Munshiganj. ‘Sentu’ alias Pichchi Sentu, 35, had been absconding after serviced with a two year prison sentence in a case.

Police say he stood accused in eight cases, including those linked to arms and drugs trafficking.

OC Alamgir Hossain of Tongibari Police Station said they arrested Sentu in Paikpara area on Wednesday.

Hossain said they took him to Kanthadiya early on Thursday to recover weapons on information he provided.

“Sentu’s accomplices opened fire on the police, prompting them to retaliate. While Sentu tried to flee, he was hit six times.”

Sentu’s body was sent to Munshiganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the OC said.

He also claimed Sub-Inspector Jashim Uddin and constables Delwar Hossain and Mizanur Rahman of his police station were injured in the shootout and admitted to the Sadar Hospital.
