The biennial council of Tongibari upazila unit BNP was foiled yesterday due to alleged obstruction by law enforcers, reports UNB.
The programme was scheduled to be held at a ground in front of district BNP general secretary Asgar Ripon Mallick’s house.
Talking to UNB, Ripon said, “Police unexpectedly blocked our programme saying there was another programme of the ruling party in the upazila at the same time. We strongly denounce and protest the police action.”
Contacted, Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tongibari police station, said BNP arranged the programme without taking any permission from the local administration.
“We’ve stopped the programme to maintain the law and order and avert any untoward incident,” he added.
