Pedestrian ‘accidentally’ shot by businessman

A pedestrian has been shot by a bullet fired allegedly by a local business leader in Munshiganj. Victim Basir Mia, 50, has been admitted to Munshiganj General Hospital with a bullet wound to his leg.

Police detained the businessman, Md Elan, 45, with a pistol soon after the incident at the town’s Manikpur on Wednesday morning, said Sub-inspector Md Harun.

Elan is the general secretary of Munshiganj town businessmen’s association.

Citing locals, SI Harun said, “Elan was demanding extortion money from a businessman named Jahangir in the morning.”

“When Jahangir refused to pay, Elan fired a shot from his pistol. But the bullet missed the target and hit Basir, who was standing nearby.”
