A pregnant woman was allegedly strangulated to death by her husband and in-laws at Chashiri village under Tongibari upazila here on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Mahmuda Akter, 24, daughter of Abdus Sattar of Purapara village in the upazila.
In this connection, police arrested Abu Sayeed, 45, husband of the victim, but his relatives fled.

Mahmuda was married to Abu Sayeed of Chaishiri village in 2011. They have a 3.5-year old girl child. After the birth of the first child, Abu Sayeed became conceited. Meanwhile, Mahmuda became pregnant again with a girl child.
Following this, Abu Sayeed tortured Mahmuda on Thursday night and strangulated her to death.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, sister of the victim Laboni Akter said a vested quarter is trying to create pressure on the victim’s relatives.

On the other hand, Abu Sayeed said, “As my wife became pregnant with a girl child again, so she committed suicide.”
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongibari Police Station Alamgir Hossain said after getting the autopsy report necessary steps would be taken.
