Four injured in violence at Munshiganj polling station

At least four persons, including a policeman, have been injured after a clash broke out between supporters of two chairman candidates outside a voting centre in Munshiganj.

Witnesses at Sadar Upazila’s Mollakandi Union said that an attempt to capture booths triggered the clash when several handmade bombs were lobbed.

Additional Superintendent of Police Abdul Halim said that police opened fire to disperse troublemakers. “At least four people, including a constable were injured.”

A similar incident occurred at another polling station in the same union, said the police official but said voting was not disrupted at the centres.

Polls are being held at 14 unions at Munshiganj Sadar and Gazaria Upazilas on Saturday during the fifth leg of the Union Parishad polls.
