A pregnant woman died following ‘faulty treatment’ at Rani General Hospital in Sreenagar upazila here on Saturday evening. Police arrested five including two doctors in this connection.
The deceased’s relatives and eyewitnesses said, Rozina Begum, 22, wife of Shahidul Islam of Chandrer Bari area under Louhajang upazila was admitted to the hospital following her labour pain at 11am on Saturday. But, the hospital authority was killing time in the name of bringing doctor from Dhaka.
At 4pm, Gynaecology Surgeon of the hospital Dr Tanbir Nahar Shamima conducted her caesarean operation, and Rozina gave birth to a male baby. But, she remained unconscious for long.
At 6pm, Rozina was put inside an ambulance for taking her to Dhaka, but at that time her relatives touched her body and found her dead.
The relatives informed the matter to police, but before police arrived, Managing Director of the hospital Harun-or-Rashid and Manager Shyam Babu fled from the spot.
Later, police arrested a shareholder of the hospital and Technician of the Pathology Department at Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex Abul Kalam Azad and nurses Sheuly and Jharna.
But, as the victim’s relatives demanded arrest of the doctors, police raided the 3rd floor of the hospital and arrested Dr Tanbir Nahar Shamima and Anaesthetist Bashar Md Abdus Salam.
