Two minors drowned in Sirajdikhan upazila here on Sunday. Sources said, Samir Hossen, 8, son of an army man Arif Hossen Hira of Paschim Rajdia village under the upazila, was rescued from a ditch near the house at 11am on Sunday.

He was rushed to Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Mystery has deepened over the incident since the ditch from where Samir was rescued had knee-deep water, and there were bruise marks under his eye and chick.

On the other hand, Bidhan Ahmed, 2, son of Shamim Ahmed, of Kusumpur village under the upazila, drowned in a nearby pond at 12pm. Upazila Health Officer Dr Dulal Hossen confirmed the incidents.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sirajdikhan Police Station Md Yeardous Hasan said, “Samir was ill. Since his death is mysterious, we sent his body to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. After getting the autopsy report, the cause of the death would be known.”
