RMG worker raped by ‘speedboat driver, helper’ in Louhajang

A female readymade garment worker was raped allegedly by a speedboat driver and his assistant at a remote char of the Padma River in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj early Monday.

Officer-in-charge of Louhajang Police Station M Anisur Rahman the victim was going to Dhaka from Palashpur village in Kaunia upazila of Barisal district on Sunday night.

She along with other passengers reached Shimulia Ghat via Kathalbari ghat around 12am on Monday.

As the woman had no change other than a note of Tk 500 to pay the boat fare, driver Rajib asked her to wait for a while at the terminal.

When other passengers went away, Rajib and his helper Mithu took the woman to a char of the river and violated her in turns.

They again took her to the Shimulia ghat and fled abandoning her there.

The victim filed a rape case against the duo with Louhajanj Police Station in the morning.
