Fishermen attack mobile team in Munshiganj

Three Fisheries officials were inured by the attck of fishermen in Louhajang of the district on Wednesday morning. The incident took place at Paikara area of the Padma River in Louhajang upazila around 5am.

Police fired 12 rounds of blank shot to bring the situation under control.

The injured are: Senior Fisheries Official Kamrul Hasan, Assistant Fisheries Official Idris Talukdar and Extension Official Rasel Mollah.

They were admitted to Louhajang Upazila Health Complex.

Senior Fisheries Official Kamrul Hasan filed a case with the Louhajang Police Station accusing 100/200 unnammed fihsrmen in this connection.

Kamrul Hasan said, the incident took place when the fishermen were netting hilsa in the River Padma defying ban.
He also said upazila Fisheries Office with a team of 28 members of Mawa Coast guard and Louhanjang police was conducing drive in the River Padma by a trawler and seaboat. At one stage, they saw mother hilsa and current net on the boats of the few fishermen at Paikara area of Padma river.

Being informed about the drive, nerly 200 fishermen hurled brick chips targeting the team, laving the three officials injured.

Director General of Fisheries Department Syed Arif Azad and other officials visited the injured officials.
