The ferry operations on the route between Shimulia in Munshiganj and Kanthalbari in Madaripur on the River Padma resumed on Tuesday morning after remaining shut for eight hours and a half due to dense fog causing untold sufferings to the travellers.
Md Abdul Alim, manager (commerce) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation at Shimulia pontoon, said ferry services resumed around 10:30am after daylight cleared the fog.
Meanwhile, six ferries, those remained stranded at different points in the river, also restated for their destinations.
Earlier, the authorities stopped the services around 2:00am due to poor visibility caused by impenetrable fog, the BIWTC official said.
A number of 16 ferries were being operated now while more than 600 vehicles were in the long queues at Shimulia pontoon to reach Kanthalbari, he added.
