Robber suspect lynched in Tongibari

A suspected robber was killed in a mob beating at Bhelua village in Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Babul Hossain, 47, a resident of Bhelua village.

Quoting villagers, police said a gang of robbers stormed the house of one Ayub Ali Sheikh and looted valuables after keeping the inmates hostage at early hours.

Hearing their hue and cry, villagers rushed in and chased the robbers.

At one stage, they managed to catch one robber while the others fled the scene.

The angry mob beat him severely, leaving him critically injured.

The injured was taken to Tongibari Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed.

Yeardous Hasan, officer-in-charge of Tongibari Police Station, confirmed the matter.
